Critters

On Saturday, Erika and I went and hiked around in the Suck Creek bed. It was a perfect weekend with perfect weather. In the 3 or so hours that we were out there, we saw an arrangement of critters.
Below is a anolis carolinensis which is commonly known as a green anole. The one on the rock was about 8 inches but she was just too fast to catch. The little one that I’m holding was a baby and he worked pretty hard to get away from me, but I finally got him. If you look at his neck, you’ll see the little pink flap of skin that they blow up, that’s how we knew it was a male.
The other pic is a praying mantis that was seriously irritated with our photography and obviously camera shy but at least posed for one good pic so that we would leave her alone.
We also found (but couldn’t catch) a few fence lizards, tons of butterflies and cray fish.

Click to enlarge these pics, especially the mantis.
